Palmitos Park

In the middle of the desert, about 30 minutes from the resort, there is a botanical garden with over 160 different cactus types, succulents and more than a thousand palm trees of 42 types. Additionally there are monkeys, crocodiles, an orchid house, an aquarium with fish and coral displays, and Europe's largest butterfly house.


Parrot-like birds are well-represented in the park, but other types of birds are also to be found, including a variety of swans and ducks. In all there are over 1,500 exotic birds of 230 different species. One of our favorite experiences from the last time we visited Palmitos park, was to have our family photo taken together with different parrots. So we did that again this time also.


On top of the mountain there is an amphitheatre surrounded by panoramic views where you can see the Birds of prey show. Eagles and falcons in free flight that perform spectacular aerobatics is a pretty awesome experience. The heat is just too much for the Norwegian vikings - the kids enjoyed a nice big slush while waiting for the show to start. Same procedure as last year, miss Sophie....

The new stars of the park are the lovely and smart dolphins. The five Bottlenose dolphins performed in a show full of jumps, agility and coordination, rhythm and a touch of humor. Natalie wanted more than anything to have her picture taken together with one of the dolphins. She got in line but came back disappointed as the prices were sky high. Another time, sweetie, another time.

The parrot show is very child friendly and the parrots are so funny and clever. They did math, drove bikes and buses, painted pictures, went down a slide, went on a vacation and so much more.


We had a nice Sunday at the Palmitos park!
