This year I had to go to the parade in Drammen with my 2nd graders. Luckily the parade for the kids start later here and I was able to hurry home and help them get ready.
Natalie has knitted a purse for the occasion! :)

I am a PTA-representative for the 5th graders and at this school the parents are in charge of the parade. Benefit: I got to take pictures along the parade. Usually I only get the back of someone's head. Drawback: Believe me - it is very hard for me not to act in a "teacher"-way and I really had to bite my tongue so that Natalie wouldn't feel embarrased about having her mom there. The parade was a little bit more disorganized than I would prefer. To put it mildly.
But we made it back to the school and enjoyed a much deserved ice cream. Michael had his last year in the parade, next year he will be in junior high school where it is no longer mandatory to join the parade. Melissa watched the parade with Glenn and they joined the kindergarten for part of the parade.
Natalie was busy singing with her choir and Michael did a great job playing with Melissa while us parents jabbed away with our new neighbors.
After the choir were done singing, Natalie and Melissa had fun with different games and won prizes.
The best part of May 17th is when you get home, get out of the national costumes and eat all the ice cream you can eat. :)
This year we did something we never have done before. We had kebab for dinner. But the potato chips were in a bag with the Norwegian flag. Hopefully that makes up for it.
Natalie liked the folded napkins with a pocket for the utensils. And strawberries....
For dessert: Oreo cake and Solo!
