The Drammen River gave birth to the city, and the river is its vital nerve as well as the source of its identity. The Drammen River was for many years one of Norway’s largest logging rivers. As a gift to the city for the 200 year celebration, the Strømsø town square was renovated and was presented a new sculpture called 'Waterice' by artist William Pye. Of course we had to go see it!
The water sculpture is beautiful. You can enter and pass through it, experiencing and enjoying the various effects from different angles. In mild warm weather it is a water sculpture. During winter in freezing conditions, it becomes an ice sculpture.
Happy 200, Drammen!
